Join living legend George Takei for a brief conversation about the graphic novel They Called Us Enemy. The book, co-written by Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott and illustrated by Harmony Becker, is Takei’s firsthand account of years behind barbed wire at an American concentration camp during World War II, the terrors of growing up under legalized racism, his mother’s hard choices, his father’s faith in democracy, and the way those experiences planted the seeds for his astonishing future. A brief Q&A with Takei follows the talk.

Books will be available at the JANM Store in mid-July. George Takei will sign a maximum of three items per person, flat items only. Please note that he is making this appearance in support of the Japanese American National Museum, so he will be signing only items purchased at the JANM Store. Photos with Takei are available only with store purchase.

This program is free for Museum members and included with general admission for non-members. Please purchase admission at the front desk at the main building prior to the event. RSVPs are strongly encouraged using this online form as reserved guests will be given priority entry.
