Members Admission Ticket

Welcome back, JANM Members!

JANM’s new hours will be 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (PST), Wed-Sun. Please log in to your account and carefully select your date and time using the available slots above when reserving your ticket. We will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays for campus cleaning.

To promote safe distancing, we have implemented new ticketing procedures:

  1.  Advance tickets for timed entry are required. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Entrance times are on the hour every hour, starting at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Please select your date and entrance time above. (Last entry is at 4 p.m.)
  2. Please arrive at the ticketed time on your ticket. Admission will be accepted up to 30 minutes after the time on your ticket. 
  3. Please bring your printed ticket or have your ticket loaded and ready to be scanned on your phone or other device to enter the museum.

NEW! COVID-19 guidelines
To help ensure the safety of our visitors and staff, JANM has implemented several new protocols and processes to help ensure the safety of our staff and visitors. We’re working hard to protect you in the midst of this pandemic, but we’ll need you to do your part, too! A complete list of new onsite features and requirements can be found HERE.

Self guided education packets are available upon entry with a $1 cash only suggested donation. Packets come sealed are yours to keep and include a pencil, visitor map, and printed copy of the Connection Guide: Finding Meaning at JANM.

Thursday: 12pm-5pm (Ticketed Admission is not required after 5:00pm and all day on the Third Thursday of the month 12pm - 8:00p.m.)

Please note, galleries remain open and admission is free every Thursday from 5pm-8pm (last admission 7:30pm) and all day every Third Thursday. For other free days, please see our calendar of events.

Published on Discover Nikkei, Nikkei Uncovered: a poetry column is a space for the Nikkei community to share stories through diverse writings on culture, history, and personal experience, curated by traci kato-kiriyama, author, poet, and performer. 


Now, the poetry column is going live! We have brought together a powerful, intergenerational lineup of poets previously featured in the column to share their poetry in a digital reading. Hosted by traci, the interactive reading and reflection will also include a short open mic portion, where viewers will be able to sign up during the program to share their poetry. 


Featuring Maiya Kuida-Osumi, Courtney Ozaki, Micah Tasaka, and Mitsuye Yamada.

Admission Online Ticket

Starting on November 4, 2021: ALL VISITORS age 12 and older will need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR Covid-19 test or negative Antigen test taken within 72 hours prior to visiting the museum. Proof of vaccination or a negative test may be in a paper or digital format, PLUS a photo ID. The vaccine requirement does not apply to children under 12.

What to know for your visit:

  • Masks are required for all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, except for children age two and younger.
  • No food or drinks permitted in the museum. Drinking fountains are available.
  • Large bags are not permitted. JANM cannot hold any jackets, clothing, or bags outside of lockers. 
  • A limited number of self-serve storage lockers (9"W x 22"H x 16"D) are available on a first-come basis. Valid ID required to use lockers.
  • Only service animals are allowed.
  • Thursdays are FREE admission from 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; last entry 4 p.m. Advance tickets not available.
  • For NARM and Western Reciprocal Membership Programs, and all other free or discount programs and passes, tickets must be obtained upon arrival. Show proof of eligibility at front desk.

Virtual Visit

A Life in Pieces: The Diary and Letters of Stanley Hayami VR Experience

In this virtual reality experience, visitors can explore Stanley Hayami’s writings from camp and wartime letters which are brought to life in an immersive audio visual experience. Visitors will be able to interact within this artificial 3-D environment using special goggles.

This experience creates an immersive virtual reality audio visual experience. Some people may experience nausea, disorientation, vertigo, seizures, motion sickness, general discomfort, headaches, eye strain, anxiety, or other physical, mental, or health-related issues and symptoms.

  • VR tickets are good for one person per time slot. 
  • The VR experience is 30 mins.

By reserving a VR timed ticket you will be required to submit a signed VR Liability Waiver. Users who are age 14 and under MUST HAVE adult or guardian signed consent. The link to the VR liability e-waiver will also be in your timed ticket confirmation email.
